Central Alberta Roundabout Resources was created by The City of Red Deer in partnership with Alberta Transportation, The City of Lacombe, The Town of Blackfalds and Lacombe County with the goal to provide residents of Central Alberta the information and tools they need to use roundabouts. Roundabouts are relatively new for Central Alberta and this type of intersection is increasingly being built over traditional signalized intersections for safety and traffic capacity benefits.
A two-lane roundabout opened in the fall of 2024 at 19 Street and 40 Avenue. A roundabout was chosen at this location to improve safety, mobility, and reduce overall traffic delays on one of Red Deer’s major arterial roadways. Complete rehabilitation of the roadway on 19 Street was also completed between Gaetz Avenue and Irwin Avenue.
